Just a reminder to get this kit before starting the process. Your K&N Filter, is ready to be reinstalled. Let that coat sit for ten minutes to wick into the remaining areas of the filter and reapply oil to fill in any areas that you can still see the white cotton underneath. Try to keep your sprays as even as possible, and only apply one coat. Spray the oil into the pleats of the filter. Once its completely dry, you can proceed to re-oil the filter. Do not let this cleaner dry on the filter. When the filter is clean, take it outside and shake it like crazy to remove as much water from it as possible. Liberally spray the K&N Air Filter Cleaner on both sides of the filter. This will force the dirt into the filter instead of cleaning it. Never rinse from the outside to the inside. Never use any cleaners other than the K&N cleaning solution. It will take a long time to air dry, so make sure you plan for that. Then follow the instructions - Never use compressed air of any kind. Now, using low pressure water, rinse the filter out from the inside to the outside until the water runs clear. Buy the K&N recharge/cleaning kit at Kragen or Walmart for 10. Let the filter sit for a few minutes, but don’t let the cleaner dry on it. Now you can spray the filter down with the cleaner until its nice and saturated. Typically, this is done by loosening the hose clamp at the end of the filter, and pulling the filter off. You’re now ready to clean.īegin by removing the filter. In my experience, it takes at least a couple of hours to dry, so you need to plan to not drive the vehicle during this time. You need to allow the filter to dry naturally before you can reinstall it. The other thing you’ll need is some time. If you don’t drive much, we’d still recommend cleaning the air filter at least once a year as part of a regular service, as this will guarantee the performance and efficiency of the engine. Do not start this process until you have the cleaning kit. You may need to clean the air filter more often if you live in a rural area, where there’s usually more dirt and dust on the road. Once you have it in hand, you’re ready to clean your filter.
I would never use anything other than this to clean the filter. It includes the cleaner and air filter oil. The first thing you ‘ll need is this Filter Recharging Kit from K&N (affiliate link). This is not hard to do, but there are a couple things you will need. Do you have a K&N Cone Style Air Filter on your vehicle? If you do, you will need to clean it at some point.
